What to Expect
Cake Smash sessions typically last about 30-60 minutes and happen in my private studio located in Gastonia, NC. The beginning is comprised of milestone pictures capturing the personality of your little one alone and end with the cake smash. Once we bring in the cake, we let your baby set the pace. Some little ones dig right in and destroy the cake while others need a little bit of encouragement and sometimes even help to get into their cake. Be ready to get your hands dirty and help your little one get past all that frosting to the cake underneath!
What to Wear
Choose the theme or color of your little one’s session first and then choose an outfit that compliments the session/backdrop. The client closet will be available to choose from with simple, neutral outfits (costumes are not provided) but you are more than welcome to bring something that you find specific for your child. Etsy and Amazon are both a wonderful resource for buying custom made outfits that will make this photo session memorable.
The Mess
I hope that your little one makes a huge mess! That’s the whole point of this session, and most fun of the day. Please bring wipes and an extra clean outfit to change child. While you are wiping your child down I will capture the mess with a final shot of the cake.
Things to Bring:
- Cake Smash Outfit (if you don’t select an outfit from studio closet)
- 1 additional outfit for Baby as backup
- Change of clothes for parents, just in case
- Diapers & wipes, wipes, wipes
- Sippy cup to help wash down the cake or milk
- Snacks (think cheerios, or puffs) in case they don’t like the cake. I sometimes have to hide them in the cake to make it look like your little one is actually eating the cake.

FAQ
How far in advance should I book our milestone or cake smash session?
I suggest booking 8 weeks prior to your little one’s birthday. This will typically ensure availability along with time to order specialty items in enough time for your session (if necessary).
Where are you based?
Cake Smash and Milestone sessions are based in my private studio located in Gastonia, NC.
If I cancel, will my retainer be refunded?
Things happen! The retainer is non-refundable but can absolutely be transferred to a new session. Please call as soon as possible if you need to reschedule.
When will we get our photos?
Your will receive a proofing gallery within 72 hours of your photoshoot for you to choose your favorites! An online gallery link with all of your edited photos are typically sent within 2-3 weeks (sometimes less depending on the season I photograph your session or number of images). You can download all the photos in the gallery and also share them with family and friends! Be sure to download in high resolution for best printing and sharing quality. If you need your gallery sooner, a rush edit can be added for an additional fee.
What does your editing process look like?
I professionally edit every image in your final gallery to include cropping, color correcting, and exposure adjustments. I blur out small imperfections and blemishes with a soft retouch, clear the background of distracting objects/people, and smooth out areas in the image that are necessary. I do not alter weight, adjust natural aging, or alter physical features.

Upon booking, based on the type of session and a general ideas you have I’ll send you over a list of location guides for you to review and choose!
